Indelible ink is a special ink used in elections to prevent voters from voting repeatedly. The election ink usually contains silver nit. Its working principle is that silver nitrate is corrosive, and silver ions react with chloride ions in the air to form silver chloride, which decomposes into elemental and black protein silver when exposed to light, causing the skin to turn white first and then black after contacting the ink.

In the elections in Pakistan, voters go to the station with their ID cards to vote at the place where they are registered for household registration. After verifying their identity, the election officials will draw a horizontal line on the voter's thumb with ink, and the voter will leave their left thumb fingerprint on the ticket stub before receiving the ballot.
